Bernhard Haslhofer co-leads the Digital Currency Ecosystems research group at the Complexity Science Hub Vienna. Previously, he served as a thematic coordinator in the Data Science & Artificial Intelligence research group at the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), a Marie Curie Fellow at Cornell Information Science, and an assistant professor at the University of Vienna. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Vienna and an M.S. in Economics and Computer Science from the Technical University of Vienna. His research focuses on developing and applying computational methods to analyze the socio-economic aspects of cryptoasset and decentralized finance ecosystems. He also contributes to digital crime and forensics research, investigating the modus operandi of emerging cybercrime phenomena, and has recently begun mapping and analyzing the structure and dynamics of large-scale disinformation campaigns. As a multidisciplinary collaborator, he has authored over 70 scientific articles, contributed to international standardization efforts, and led numerous basic and applied research projects.
